for anyone too young to know this: watching The Truman Show is a vastly different experience now, compared to how it was before youtube and social media influencers became normal

before it was like, "what a horrifying thing to do to a human being! to take away their autonomy and privacy, all for the sake of profits! to create fake scenarios for them to react to, just to retain viewership! to ruin their happiness just so some corporate entity could harvest money from their very humanity! how could anyone do something so evil?"

and now it's like, "ah, yeah. this is still deeply fucked up, but it's pretty much what every influencer has been doing to their kids for a decade now. probably bad that we've normalized this experience"

Instagram and TikTok have successfully created the Torment Nexus from Jim Carrey's iconic work, "Don't put people in the Torment Nexus"

Y'all. "Hell is empty and the devil's are here" is not one of those epic Tumblr quotes. It's from The Tempest. The Shakespeare one.

apolloendymion

remember when that furry post went around with "you have nothing to lose but your chains" and people were saying "this is such a raw ass line and it's from a furry post" but it's literally karl marx

reading waiting for godot for class and finding out that’s where that “that’s how it is on this bitch of an earth” meme is from ruined me i think

astraltrickster

new game: "classic or shitpost?" in which we give you a raw-ass quote and you have to determine whether it came from an internet shitpost or classic literature

But "I will face god and walk backwards into hell" IS a dril tweet

jfk famously changed the course of fashion by making many appearances at state functions without a hat, which was previously considered mandatory for well-dressed men. at his inaugural address, he even bragged about "[his] big juicy melon, naked as a jay bird for all the world to see". unfortunately we can all see how that turned out for him in the tragic events of the zapruder footage

play-now-my-lord

the real tragedy about JFK is that with his horrible secret health condition managed mostly by uppers and steroids by incompetent 1960s doctors, he was apparently healthy, yet his system was essentially defenseless against the deadliest medical problem known to man: being shot directly in the brain

you know who could have used a warning about something being spoiled? JFK, about his lovely visit to Dallas, Texas

play-now-my-lord

I don't remember why I spent last night JFKposting. I don't know exactly was going through my head here. On the other hand, what went through JFK's head was pretty thoroughly established by the Warren Commission

Some real zingers there.

That's the thing is that I knew an AR-10 is chambered in .308 and not .303. I knew that. But for some reason it fell out of my head the entire time I was writing two books in which AR-10s featured prominently. I just went "These things take .303, right? That sounds right" just bold as fucking brass and not one person corrected me at any point of the process. Now it's far too late to save face and I may as well come up with some bullshit about how these are special *~future~* AR-10s that shoot different ammo
